Vaginal probiotics contain various strains of lyophilized lactobacillus (L. rhamnosus and L. gasseri) that are capable of adhering and colonizing the mucosa, producing substances such as lactic acid and hydrogen peroxide and competing with pathogens for nutrients decreasing the risk of  that infections occur.
